Woman techie fends off car driver’s sickle
A woman software professional thwarted a man’s attempt to rob her on Pallavaram–Thuraipakkam Radial Road on Tuesday afternoon.
The man had approached her in a car stating that he had been sent from her office to pick her up. Once inside, he took out a sickle and tried to rob her but the woman snatched the weapon from him and jumped out of the vehicle.
The police has apprehended the driver, Satheesh, who is suspected to have robbed other women in a similar fashion.
The 23-year-old woman who doesn’t want to be named was waiting at the Vels College bus stop on the Pallavaram–Thuraipakkam Radial Road to go to her office on Old Mahabalipuram Road when a Tata Indica approached her.
“Since her company occasionally sends cabs to pick up employees, she asked the driver if the car had been sent from her company.
When the driver nodded, she got inside the vehicle. After a kilometer, the man stopped the car saying there was a technical problem.
He then suddenly pulled out a sickle from under his seat and asked her to remove all gold ornaments.
But the woman snatched the sickle from him, broke the side window before jumping out of the vehicle. In the confusion she left her bag in the car,” the police said.
As soon as she jumped out of the car, the driver fled the scene and a few other motorists chased him. One of them also alerted the police.
“The car and driver Satheesh of Nanmagalam was caught at the next signal. He was later taken to Madipakkam police station.
However, the woman took her bag and left the scene saying she was not interested in lodging a complaint,” the police said.
