Woman seeks Rs 10l for medical negligence
A woman has approached the Madras high court to direct the Union and state governments to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to her for the alleged medical negligence by the doctors in the government hospitals in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, where she was admitted during pregnancy.
Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar ordered notice to the Union and state governments and posted after two weeks further hearing of the case.
Petitioner S. Mary said she was residing with her husband and a daughter in Nathakulam colony in Villupuram.
During her second pregnancy, when she developed labour pains on June 19, 2010, her husband took her to a government hospital in Kallakurichi.
But due to the negligent act of the staff, they shifted her to a normal ward. The doctors also failed to notice the mistake and failed to do the operation as decided by them at 3 a.m..
At the time, when she was taken into the operation theatre, her uterus was damaged and the male child also died.
