Woman held for abducting boy
A former employee of a medical shop kidnapped her boss’s four-year-old son and demanded a ransom of ` 30 lakhs to avenge her dismissal from service.
The city police, within hours, swung into action and rescued the boy and arrested the woman on Thursday.
Lakshmipathy, a resident of Kamarajar Salai in KK Nagar owns a medical shop in the neighbourhood. His two sons - Naresh, 14 and Sai Surya, 4 – are studying in a nearby school. A few days ago, Lakshmipathy sacked Latha, an employee of his medical shop after suspicious incidents of money going missing from the cash register in the shop. Irked by this, Latha planned to take revenge and kidnapped Lakshmipathy’s son Sai Surya from his playschool on Thursday.
“She told the boy that his father had sent her to take him home. She took him away and locked him up in a house in Nerkunram. Later she called Lakshmipathy and demanded a ransom of `30 lakh,” police said. The boy’s father, who panicked on receiving the ransom call, lodged a complaint with the KK Nagar police who swung into action immediately and launched a search for the boy and Latha.
Her mobile calls were traced to a house in Nerkunram from where a special police team rescued Sai Surya and arrested her. Latha had been aided by her husband Shaji and some of his friends to execute the kidnap plan. The police are on the lookout for Shaji and his aides. Sai Surya was handed over to his parents.
