Win for good governance: Jayalalithaa
Chief minister and AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa on Friday said the Pudukottai bypoll results have once again proved that the people of the state are with the ruling AIADMK and given the victory for the one-year achievement of the government and good governance.
In a statement on Friday, the CM thanked the voters of Pudukottai constituency for giving a resounding victory to party candidate Karthik Thondaiman, even as party volunteers celebrated the victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in front of her Poes Garden residence.
She said the bypoll results revealed that the party’s vote share had increased by 24 per cent compared to the 2011 Assembly elections, when its ally, the CPI candidate won the seat, securing 47 per cent votes.
Now, the AIADMK, contesting alone, has secured 71 per cent of the votes and all the other candidates, together secured only 29 per cent. As the DMK did not contest the bypoll, all its votes were polled against the AIADMK and still the ruling party secured 71 per cent of the votes. “This clearly shows that the people are with the AIADMK,” she said.
Hailing the massive victory, party volunteers led by tourism minister and women’s wing secretary Gokula Indira and MLA V.P. Kalairajan assembled in front of CM’s Poes Garden residence and celebrated the victory. They distributed sweets, burst crackers and danced in joy.
“This is people’s prize for Amma for the one-year achievement of the government. The bypoll win has set the stage for party’s victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections and Amma capturing Red Fort in Delhi,” Gokula Indira said.
