Weathermen predict harsher climate
With the ‘peak’ summer season entering the second half, weathermen predict a harsher climate for the next few days. Already many parts of Tamil Nadu are reeling under an oppressive heat.
On Wednesday, Nungambakkam recorded 39.5 degree Celsius, while Meenambakkam registered 40.9 degree Celsius.
While Nungambakkam has seen two degrees rise in temperature compared to normal, it was three degrees more in Meenambakkam.
“Though we cannot call it a heat wave, the temperature has turned a little bit uncomfortable. We normally call the weather as ‘hot’ days when it crosses 40 degree Celsius,” said Dr Y. E. A. Raj, deputy director general of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
While noting that the rise in temperature is common during the ‘peak’ summer season, he said, the mercury is soaring despite onset of sea breeze at 12 noon.
“There is more amount of north westerly winds and so, the temperature continues to remain high,” he added.
He further noted that the ‘peak’ summer season has reached halfway stage and so we can expect more ‘hot’ days.
‘The winds are also flowing from northwest direction instead of southwest direction and so the hot days will continue for a few more days,” he added.
Among the districts, Vellore recorded the highest temperature at 41.2 degree Celsius followed by Cuddalore at 41 degree Celsius.
Nagapattinam (39), Madurai (38.6), Karur (38.6) and Trichy (38) are the other weather stations that recorded high temperature.
