Washing machines for TN kids’ homes
Inmates of government homes would soon be spared the drudgery of manually washing their clothes and devote more time to their studies, thanks to chief minister Jayalalithaa.
The chief minister has ordered to provide washing machines to 27 government children’s homes and seven service homes. A sum of Rs 1.2 crore has been allotted.
Some of the children at the 27 children’s homes and seven service homes, functioning under the control of social welfare organisations, are forced to wash their clothes themselves and as a result they could not dedicate much time for their studies.
Besides accommodation, food, educational facilities and uniforms are provided to the destitutes, widows and poor children.
To help the students pursue studies effectively, the chief minister has ordered purchase of 34 washing machines each costing Rs 3.5 lakh.
According to Savant Tiruvalluvar, one’s treasure is the proper education that he gets. True to this spirit, the state government led by Ms Jayalalithaa has been taking various measures including providing incentive for education, mid-day meals, free uniforms, books, notebooks, bicycles and laptops to students.
These measures have ensured that everyone obtained quality education, an official release said on Thursday.
“The chief minister’s gesture will help to reduce the work burden on children and ensure that children spend their time studying rather than washing clothes,” the release added.
It may be recalled that the chief minister had recently ordered the distribution of about 1,600 tailoring machines to the people hailing from backward, most backward and denotified communities in eight districts of the state.
