Want to move out, pay Rs 6 cr: HC to ship
Reiterating that MV Pratibha Cauvery, which ran aground near Chennai on October 31, should not be moved from the territorial jurisdiction of the Madras high court, the HC said if the ship is to be moved, the owner should deposit Rs 6 crore in court.
Passing further interim orders, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar on Wednesday said, “Additional solicitor general G. Masilamani seeks time to file counter. Pending further orders, the ship should not be moved from the territorial jurisdiction of this court and if the ship is to be moved, the owner of the vessel shall deposit Rs 6 crore in favour of registrar general of high court as six persons have already died.”
The judge posted to November 9 further hearing of the petitions from two deceased crew member’s family members.
The police have summoned the MD and other officials of the ship to appear before them Friday.
