Vet college application sales up
The sale of veterinary college applications has reached an all-time high and more students are showing interest in joining veterinary courses.
Last year the university sold 5,700 applications and this year the number can touch the 10,000 mark, Dr R. Prabhakaran, vice chancellor, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, said.
Exuding confidence he said the state was in need of veterinarians and almost all students leaving the veterinary colleges in the state are now well placed.
Interestingly the state government has appointed majority of them and the private farms are looking out for young veterinary graduates with good pay packages, the VC said.
According to Madras Veterinary College sources till Friday, as many as 7,956 applications for bachelor of veterinary science have been sold and there are two more weeks to close the application sale.
Fisheries and B Tech application forms have also witnessed a slight increase when compared to the previous fiscal.
An official attached to the state animal husbandry department said students who pursued science in their Plus-2 examinations could consider joining the veterinary course as good job opportunities in government and private sectors are waiting for veterinary graduates.
With the AIADMK government focussing on improving the livestock resource of the state, veterinarians will have a decent deal during employment and the situation will be healthy for vets at least for the next four years, the official added.
“Most of seniors who had completed in 2009 are now with the state government and I belong to 2010 batch and pinning hope to get a government job”, opined Jyothi, a veterinary postgraduate.
