Vaccinate kids before admission, says CBSE
If you want to admit your child in a school affiliated to CBSE take him to the nearest doctor and vaccinate, as a new circular from the Board says every kid must be vaccinated before admission.
Mrs Sadhana Parashar, director (training), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), said vaccinations like the OPV vaccine are given as a series of shots and some children may have missed getting all the required shots.
Unprotected children may spread the disease especially in schools where a large numbers of students are together in close quarters.
She pointed out that keeping students’ health in mind, CBSE had incorporated a format for verifying the record of immunisation that a child had been subjected at the time of admission in school.
Mrs Parashar also cautioned schools against doing any external examination or referral without taking the parents into confidence.
CBSE has urged schools to encourage immunisation of students and verify immunisation record of each student admitted in the school, besides discussing kids immunisation records with their parents for a timely remediation.
Some parents say the Board’s new guideline won’t make much of a difference with growing awareness about the need for immunisation.
“Most of the parents are educated and they immunise their kids. But we do welcome CBSE’s decision as it will make parents to vaccinate their kids without fail”, Mrs Latha, a parent said.
Dr J. K. Reddy, consultant pediatrician at Apollo Childrens hospital, said that most of the immunisations are part of the universal vaccine schedule that the government provides, and so most children would be up to date on that count.
