Truck stranded on tracks hits train services
The Madurai-bound Vaigai Express and several EMUs on Beach-Tambaram-Beach route were disrupted for half an hour Monday afternoon after a stone-laden truck returning from Trishulam quarry broke down and got stranded on the railway line.
The truck broke down on the railway line at 1.20 pm while passing through the level crossing no. 24 on the foothills of Trishulam at Pallavaram.
As the vehicle was heavily loaded, it took railway staff and police around 30 minutes to pull it off the railway line with the support of local residents.
“It would have taken hours to clear the track if the incident had taken place during the night. But for the local residents, the truck would have remained stranded across the railway line for hours,” remarked a railway police officials there.
The Vaigai Express, which started from Egmore for Madurai, was stopped midway ahead of Pallavaram.
EMUs on either direction on Beach-Tambaram route were temporarily suspended.
This is the second incident reported in a month.
