Trader beaten to death
An iron scrap dealer was beaten to death in Madipakkam early on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Jayaraman, 55, a resident of Kamaraj Street at Ullgaram in Madipakkam. His son Vinod was seriously injured in the attack.
It all started on Friday night when Jayaraman and his family members, returning from a function, saw a call taxi parked in front of their house with the occupants consuming alcohol. Jayaraman and his son objected to it and asked the drinkers to go away. That led to a heated verbal exchange.
According to the police, the attackers knocked at Jayaraman’s door at around 1.30 am on Sunday. “As soon as his son Vinod opened the door, the men started attacking him with clubs. Listening to the cries of his son, Jayaraman came out of the house. The gang then started hitting Jayaraman with clubs and he died on the spot,” the police said.
Police believe that the incident on Friday led to this incident. One of the drivers, Mani, and another member of the group were arrested.
The police investigation team is on the lookout for two others, namely Velu and Suresh, who are suspected to be part of the group. “We are hopeful of arresting the remaining members soon,” the police said.
