TNCC sore at neglect by AICC

Tamil Nadu Congress has once again got a raw deal from the party high command. As in recent years, the AICC (All India Congress Committee) has showed little interest in deliberating about the party’s growth in Tamil Nadu even as it had constituted review committees to analyse extensively the poll debacle in Goa and Uttar Pradesh.

Murmurs are rising not just from the cadres but also some top brass in the state unit, about their discontent over the high command’s apathy towards the TNCC.

As usual, former Union minister and former PCC chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan was quick to react, saying, “Congress workers in TN are upset over the neglect shown by the AICC towards TNCC. Three meetings have been held ever since the party failed in the UP Assembly polls.

But it has been 10 months since the Congress lost in the TN Assembly polls and nearly four months since the local body poll failure here, but the AICC has not taken any interest to analyse why the party failed here.”

“We hope the AICC will show at least 10 per cent of the interest it shows on UP on the TNCC.

It will really help the party grow,” Mr Elangovan remarked, adding that they are sure that party general secretary Rahul Gandhi would take note of their sentiments and do something to strengthen the party in TN.

The number of visits the AICC seniors pay to TN is a stark reminder of their neglectful attitude towards the TNCC, another party senior, preferring anonymity, said, pointing out that except during the elections, very few AICC seniors visit TN officially.

The AICC goes for organisational rejig in the northern states after a poll debacle or revamps the unit, but it’s been over a decade since new office-bearers were added or existing ones elevated in TNCC, remarked the party chief.

Even Union shipping minister G.K. Vasan, who enjoys maximum clout in the state party unit, has failed to move the high command to revamp the TNCC.
