Is there woman chain-snatcher on the prowl?
In a bizarre change from the trend of women’s chains being stolen, a woman on a two-wheeler snatched the gold chain of a man near the roundtana close to Ashoka Hotel in Egmore around 9.30 am Friday.
The incident occurred hardly 100 metres from the office of Chennai Police Commissioner.
Computer operator Saikumar, 45, of Madipakkam was walking from Egmore Railway Station, along Pantheon Road, to his office opposite Egmore Museum via Kennet Lane when the woman wearing a helmet approached him seeking an address.
“She spoke to him for some time, then suddenly snatched his chain,” police quoted the victim.
Mr Saikumar, who usually takes an EMU to Egmore, tried to resist, but the woman sped away. “She suddenly snatched the chain and zoomed,” he told police.
Cops suspect Mr Saikumar knows the woman. “He claims she sought an address, but initial probe indicates the woman was talking to him for some time and assaulted him before taking away the ornament.”
The two were talking but soon began fighting, eyewitnesses said.
