Tasmac workers want leaks plugged
While Tasmac authorities have been tightening the screws on employees to achieve the target income for this fiscal, employees have complained of illegal sales in several bars across the state and point out that the sales target cannot be achieved without restricting them.
They have also alleged that the authorities had given oral instructions asking them not to sell beer thereby creating artificial demand and appealed to government to curtail illicit distilleries that mushroomed across the state.
Officials have orally instructed employees to increase the sale of liquor by 40 percent during the corresponding period (March). Besides, they have also fixed a target to increase the sales of hard liquor and have fixed target for each shops, alleged S.S. Theagarajan, president, Tasmac employees union.
While the authorities pushes employees to achieve the target, they should also ensure reining in on illegal distilleries that are widely operated in several places and take stringent actions against persons those who sell liquor illegally, he pointed out.
Mr Theagarajan said “If at all any actions are being taken, it confines only to bartenders, no actions are initiated against owners.”
