Stalin insists city has cholera, for all-party team to visit areas
DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin on Wednesday said that he was ready to prove cholera outbreak in the city and asked mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy to set up an all-party delegation to visit various localities to find out prevalence of cholera in the city.
Addressing a demonstration condemning the failure of the city corporation administration to prevent outbreak of cholera here at Memorial Hall, Mr Stalin alleged that mayor was only busy denying reports of outbreak of cholera rather than taking steps to prevent it.
“We do not want to lower ourselves by challenging the mayor who denies outbreak of cholera in the city,” he said.
Mr Stalin, who was elected as city mayor twice in 1996 and 2001, asked the mayor to form a committee consisting of representatives from all the political parties and members of media to find out prevalence of cholera.
“We will show the areas where cholera is spreading. We are ready to prove it,” he said and dared the local administration minister to come out with a white paper on issue of cholera outbreak.
DMK deputy general secretary Sarguna Pandian, former mayor M. Subramanian and Kushboo took part in the demo.
