Son of police officer sets self on fire
A son of a police official committed suicide by setting himself on fire at the Teynampet police quarters on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, at 7 am, Naveen Prasad, 28, son of Lourd Samy, 53, a special sub inspector attached to the city traffic police, doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze. He died on the spot, police said.
Naveen Prasad, a BCA graduate, was depressed for the last few weeks, according to his relative. Members of his family were trying look for a suitable bride for him but he was not confident about marrying now, police said after talking to his relatives.
It is, however, not clear why he took the extreme step. The police said that he had not left behind any suicide note.
The police is trying to find out if he decided to kill himself because he was not ready for marriage or due to depression.
