Slang does fake police gang in
Two of a four-member gang of thugs were arrested on Tuesday thanks to Mr Ramachandran, 50, who used his knowledge of the Kerala martial arts, kalari, to overpower one of them while the other was apprehended by neighbours.
The four had arrived at Ramachandran clinic claiming to be policemen but it was their slang language that alerted Ramachandran that they were not cops. When he asked them for identity cards, one of them brandished a knife.
“Hearing the arguments my wife Ambika came out. When one of them inflicted a cut on her hand, I decided to act and managed to catch one. While the other three started fleeing, people gathered outside in the street and overpowered another,” he said.
He, however, said that he had to pay a few thousands of rupees at the Kumaran Nagar police station to complete the formalities of lodging a complaint, arresting the accused and remanding them.
“If police personnel at the station are collecting money, it is wrong. We will take action against such people if the complainant specifies instances and informs us,” said deputy commissioner of police, Adyar, Mr R. Sudhakar.
