Shuffle of IPS officers on cards
Another round of shuffle among top IPS officials in the city and the state is on the cards, according to sources.
The new city police chief S. George may be given a free hand to choose his own team, following the change of police commissioner.
“We are told changes are on the way. We are just keeping our fingers crossed,” a junior-level official told Deccan Chronicle.
Barring one or two senior officials reporting directly to the city police commissioner, other officials may be shifted, sources said.
With many officials, including several assistant commissioners and inspectors, enjoying political clout, it may be tough for the new commissioner to go for a complete revamp of his team.
“However, he will negotiate and persuade his higher ups to build his team. There are many officials who refuse to move out of the Chennai city police even after many rounds of shuffle following the regime change in the year 2011.
The new commissioner may identify them and push them out to bring in a new team,” a retired police official noted.
Immediately after George assumed charge, the government made a minor shuffle. “However, those changes were only internal.
Nobody was shifted from the city police. The next round of shuffle will not be that soft. There will be some changes in key posts,” sources said.
