SFI cadres protest power outages
Students protested against the frequent power cuts Thursday when over 70 members of Student Federation of India (SFI) gathered in front of the electricity board office on Anna Salai.
Students said generators were not provided in many schools during exam time. When they raised slogans police personnel arrested them.
“School and college students are unable to prepare for their exams. Apart from declared timings, we suffer unannounced power cuts. Students use candles in exam halls,” said SFI district secretary M.N. Kumar.
He added that many college students could not submit their projects because of power outages in the labs. “We are clueless on how to work in our science labs without electricity. The government should take efforts to provide power to schools and colleges during working hours.”
