Settop box deadline extended to Nov. 19

The Madras high court on Friday extended till November 19 the deadline for the implementation of the digital access system (DAS) that mandates compulsory installation of settop boxes (STBs) in cable TV households in Chennai.

Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar, however, opted out of hearing the petition from Chennai Metro Cable TV Operators Association any further.

“As the issue involves larger public interest regarding the TV viewers, I am of the view that the matter may be placed before a division bench,” he said.

The counsel for the IB ministry, based on the representation from the state government, said that it would not have any objection to extending the deadline till December 31 provided that TN Arasu Cable TV Corporation gave an undertaking.
