Weathermen predict scattered rainfall across TN for the next four days due to low-pressure area in the South Comorin region.

On Wednesday, the southern districts received widespread rainfall, while the northern region experienced scattered rain.

“We expect the intensity of rainfall to increase in the city in the coming days because of the presence of more clouds over the west of Chennai,” said Dr. Y.E.A. Raj, deputy director general of meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre “The weather models show some rainfall continuing up to April 29.There would be isolated heavy and scattered rainfall,”he said.

However, he also noted that with the gradual reduction of rain, the mercury would once again soar in the city.

“We expect westerly winds in the first week of May and it would again lead to hot days in Chennai,” said Dr Raj.

Rain kills three in western TN

The heavy rain and thunderstorm that wreaked havoc in and around Coimbatore and other areas brought down the temperature as the city recorded a high of 31.7 degrees Celsius, significantly lesser than the 38 degrees C that was averaging for the last several days.

The rains that commenced around 6 pm, continued through the night, inundating several arterial roads.

Power supply, disrupted across the city after several trees crashed and snapped power cables, could not be restored until late Tuesday night.

While the city limped back to normalcy Wednesday morning, farmers in and around Perur suffered heavy damage in acres of banana plantation and cornfields.

Farmers in Perur pointed out that they may have suffered crop loss amounting to lakhs of rupees due to the rain and pleaded for government relief.

Elsewhere in western Tamil Nadu, rain claimed the lives of three persons - two in Salem and one in Namakkal district - besides injuring several others.
