Sanitary inspectors check hotel kitchens
Unhygienic restaurants may cause food-borne diseases and so regular inspections at kitchens of hotels and eateries should be conducted, said Dr Krishnaraj, deputy director of health services, who is also the designated officer of food safety department (Chennai district).
While addressing an awareness camp on food safety, Dr Krishnaraj stressed the significance of monitoring bacterial content in the food. He also insisted the food safety and sanitary officers to check out for open drains and overhead tanks that are not covered as they turn breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, a team of food safety department and sanitary inspectors also checked the kitchen maintenance of a few hotels in Anna Nagar.
Twentyfive food safety officers and 150 food handlers and hotel workers from Anna Nagar, Arumbakkkam and Purasaiwalkam participated. A presentation on food safety and guidelines were discussed in the meeting.
