Sandalwood gift to Nagore dargah
Reaching out to the Muslims, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday ordered providing 40 kg of sandalwood for free to the famous Nagore Dargah for the annual santhanakoodu festival (Urs).
The Nagore Dargah, considered one of the most sacred places by the Muslims, is a standing example of social harmony and unity in the society.
The Santhanakoodu festival draws devotees from various parts of the state and country as well.
According to an official statement here on Sunday, the former president of Nagore Dargah and tenth Adheenam Hazrath Alhaj S. S. Kameel Saheeb Kadhri called on the chief minister and briefed her about the festival.
The sandalwood paste is prepared and taken out in a procession to be used in the memorial of Hazrath Nagore Shahul Hamid.
He appealed to the chief minister to provide the sandalwood to be used during the Urs. Immediately, Ms. Jayalalithaa ordered 40 kg sandalwood worth `3 lakh to be provided to the Dargah.
