Record 3.5 lakh forms for teachers test sold out
About 3.5 lakh application forms for the Tamil Nadu teacher eligibility test (TNTET) were sold on the first day, Thursday. Introduced this year in accordance with the guidelines of the national council for teacher education (NCTE), the test is mandatory for recruitment in government, aided and unaided institutions.
According to sources in teachers’ recruitment board (TRB), around 60,000 applications were sold in Chennai on Thursday.
“The application forms will be given till April 4. If the demand is high, we might extend the date. From next year onwards, everything will be available online,” added the source.
Around 8 lakh applications had been printed, hoping for a sale of 6 lakh. But after the big demand, TRB has placed orders for 4 lakh more applications. “Teachers recruited after August 23, 2010 have to clear TET.
Those who intend to teach for classes 1 to 5 have to clear paper I and those who intend to teach for classes 6 to 8 have to clear paper II. And those who want to teach from classes 1 to 8 have to appear for both papers,” said a TRB official.
The one-hour-30-minute exam will have 150 multiple choice questions and those who secure 60 per cent or more in the exam will be considered as having passed it.
The applications are available at 66 district elementary education officer’s office across the state and the exam will be held in the first week of June.
