Railway police detains unstable people in various city stations
The railway police on Monday started detaining beggars and other mentally unstable people roaming around various railway stations in the city after a mentally-unstable man gained access to thhe engine of an EMU at Moore Market complex.
“So far, we arrested 14 people on Monday. All of them were found to be mentally unstable,” the police said.
“Half of them claimed to be from other states, including Jharkhand, Bihar and Maharashtra. We have admitted them to the mental health institute. Once they are normal, we may get their actual addresses,” said police.
The police, with memories of EMU hijack from MMC station, had arrested a man named Tamim Ansari, 20, on Sunday when he tried to drive a EMU engine.
“Ansari, hailing from Arakonam, was found mentally unstable when we arrested him. He was trying to operate a lever in the stationary EMU engine when the engine driver noticed him,” the police said.
CB-CID sleuths who are probing the EMU hijack and subsequent crash three years ago, are yet to find the hijacker.
