Question paper revamp likely
In a bid to end rote learning and to make students use their analytical skills, the state government is likely to revamp the question paper pattern for undergraduate and postgraduate students in arts and science colleges in the state.
Question papers will be revamped in such a way that 50 per cent will be objective while the rest will be subjective types, said sources.
Pointing out that chief minister J. Jayalalithaa had stressed on the need to make Tamil Nadu a knowledge hub, they said the new initiative would help realise her vision as it would eliminate rote learning and increase students’ analytical skills.
“At present we have only descriptive type questions in examinations for both undergraduate and post-graduate courses. We are of the opinion that this move will make students study their subjects in detail and read their books fully without which they will not be able to answer objective-type questions,” the sources said.
Sources also said that universities had been asked to introduce new courses apart from revamping existing ones. “The state government is keen on improving the quality of higher education and to this effect universities will convene meetings with students’ representatives, industry leaders and chairman of board of studies to revamp the syllabi according to industry needs,” the sources added.
