Polyandra was money spinner for Shahanaz
With more than half a dozen complaints lodged against the much-married woman Shahanaz Ismail, the city police are thinking of taking her into their custody for a detailed inquiry.
“Every complainant has a different story to tell. So unless we question her in custody we will not be able to extract information from her on her modus operandi for the last six years,” a senior police official noted.
Shahanaz had been allegedly luring, marrying and ditching men in the last few years. Acting on complaints, a city police team on Saturday night had arrested her from Bengaluru bus stand.
The woman, who had left behind in Kerala the child born to her first husband, had been kindling hopes of marriage in many youths in the city to extract money from them.
“As far as we know she had married at least four men in the last few years and also extracted money from four others after promising to marry them,” police said.
Shahanaz, who has been practicing polyandry to make money from her lovers and husbands, is now six months pregnant.
Though she claimed that her last husband who works in a sports goods shop is the father of the child, police had decided to conduct a DNA test to determine her claim because Prasanna was keeping mum on the issue.
So far in Chennai six persons, including Manikandan and Prasanna whom she had wed along with Saravanan of Adyar, Raja of T Nagar, Saravanan of Tiruvotriyur had lodged complaints with the city police besides her ex-employer.
