Sick of her abusive husband, a woman allegedly paid her brother’s friends to kill him. While she got away with it at the time , the law caught up with her three years later.

One of the hired killers reportedly confessed to the crime when caught during a routine vehicle inspection by the police recently.

While the woman, Malar, 39, has so far evaded the police, her brother, Murali, an autorickshaw driver, who allegedly took the help of three friends from MGR Nagar to kill her husband, has been arrested.

Murali decided to do away with his brother-in-law as Malar often complained about the harassment and abuse she had to put up with, according to the police.

Acting on his sister’s instructions, Murali arrived with his friends at her house in Karapakkam near Porur late March , 2009, on the pretext of having a few drinks with her husband, Babu, a daily wage worker.

“The guests invited Babu for a drinking session on the terrace of the house and after a few rounds of
drinks, they helped Murali smother him to death using a pillow.

After making sure he was dead they brought his body down and placed it on the bed. The next day morning as planned, Malar began crying, saying her husband died after a bout of excessive drinking. The incident was never reported to the police at the time.

And the body was cremated the same day,” the police said, adding, “It seems the woman was really sick of her husband and wanted to get rid of him at any cost. We believe she gave her brother the money to hire his friends to kill her husband.”

Besides Murali, the police has arrested two of his friends, Parthipan and Selvakumar and are looking out for Malar and a third accomplice , Saravanakumar who is absconding.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
