Plus-1 boy, two BE students die in mishaps
A Plus-1 student and two engineering students were crushed to death in two different accidents at East Tambaram and Chengalpet on Saturday.
Police said 16-year-old R. Suryanarayanan, studying Plus-1 in a school at Salem, was riding a bike when a tipper lorry hit him from behind on East Tambaram-Sanatorium service road killing him on the spot. The boy had come down to the city on a vacation.
He was on his way to the sanatorium to draw cash from an ATM, when the mishap occurred, police said.
The driver, Chinnappan (50), tried to flee from the scene, but public chased and caught him. After a sound thrashing, they handed him over to the traffic police.
Public complained that the stretch often witnessed accidents as tipper lorries and sand laden trucks overspeed on the service road.
In another tragic accident, Arun Balaji (21), who came from Dharmapuri to attend his convocation at a private engineering college in Chengalpet, and his friend Mageshkumar (22), a mechanical engineering student, were killed in the early hours of Saturday.
They were returning home on a two-wheeler after watching a late night movie when the bike hit a sand-laden bullock cart on Palaveli bypass road. Both did not wear helmet and they died of head injuries on the spot, police said.
