Perumal temple gets 5-tier raja gopuram
Legend has it that sons of Lord Rama — Lava and Kusa — had their training lessons in archery in this place.
After crying for attention for several decades, the Shri Varadaraja Perumal Temple at Siruvaour village near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district was renovated and consecrated recently.
A few devotees came together to build a new five-tier raja gopuram for the Varadaraja Perumal Temple and achieved it after several stumbling blocks.
The locals believe that the temple was built during the Ramayana period. They claimed that after killing the demon Saaranaasuran, Lord Rama gave audience to Sage Valmiki in this Siruvaour village.
“Our forefathers have informed our predecessors that many decades ago, a blind man came and stayed in this temple and at the end of the 48th day he got vision,” said V. Ramamurthy, a farmer, who holds a postgraduate degree.
Stating that Sage Valmiki sent his disciples to this village to learn archery, Mr Ramamurthy said the temple is considered an auspicious place to pray for good education.
“While the temple has been renovated, we are planning to restore three-times a day puja also,” said a devotee.
