People have forgotten old food habits, laments mayor
“We have forgotten our good old food habits that enhanced the immune system,” Chennai mayor Saidai Duraisamy said on Tuesday after inaugurating a seminar on swine flu and its prevalence in he city.
“The inclusion of turmeric, alovera and garlic in the daily food system is the need of the hour,” he said.
More people are prone to infections and flu, he said and added that people were losing their immunity and had become prone to communicable diseases.
The mayor urged corporation authorities to stock adequate doses of Tamiflu in the communicable diseases hospital at Tondiarpet.
He asked medical practitioners to conduct research on natural antioxidants such as turmeric and garlic.
The objective of the meet was to create awareness about the disease in Chennai among private medical practitioners, said corporation health officer Dr. P. Kuganantham.
