Pencil gift touches teacher’s heart
Government school headmaster J. Krishnamurthy of Pudhucherry received greetings from his friends last August.
But they were not the ones who studied or worked with him. They were students who studied in his school. The kids rushed to him and shook hands with him and gave a pencil as a gift for Friendship Day.
“I was overwhelmed and felt that I had worked as a good teacher. The small pencil from the students motivated me to work more,” said Mr Krishnamurthy.
Like him many teachers shared their experiences with their students at a meet on classroom democracy organised by Tamil Nadu platform for public schools in the city on Saturday.
A book titled Katrum Velichamum Vaguparikul was launched during the meet. It has articles from experienced teachers and educationalists to inform the teaching community in other schools about changes to be done in classrooms and how the teachers could improve rapport with their students.
They paid tribute to Uma Maheswari, who was killed by her own student in the classroom in a city school last month.
