Painter killed in drunken brawl
A painter was stabbed to death by his friend in a drunken brawl in Porur on Saturday night. The victim, Mohanasundaram, 21, a resident of Kamaraja Nagar in Tambaram, was stabbed by Balu, 22, a painter.
He was staying with his friends in Bhajana Koil Street in Chinna Porur. On Saturday night he and his friends were on their way to watch a kabadi match in Kolapakkam when the incident happened.
“They had consumed alcohol from a wine shop and later had dinner at a restaurant. There was a quarrel over paying the dinner bill.
Sateesh, another painter and a friend of the victim, said he would not be able to pay the bill for all the members in the gang. This resulted in a quarrel and subsequent exchange of blows between Balu and Sateesh.
Mohanasundaram tried to pacify Balu and they walked a few metres ahead of others in the group. In between Sateesh left the place.
Later other friends found Mohanasundaram in a pool of blood and Balu missing. Mohanasundaram died on the spot. A police team from Porur later arrested Babu for murdering Mohanasundaram.
The police said that Balu picked up a knife from his sister’s house in between and stabbed his friend on his stomach as he thought Mohanasundaram had helped Sateesh to escape from the scene.
