Now, fixed fee at TN’s 788 teacher training colleges
For the first time, the state government has fixed fees for 788 teacher training colleges in the state, according to which students have to pay Rs 46,500 as fees per year for B.Ed. and Rs 47,500 for M.Ed. courses. In the past, colleges had charged about Rs 75,000 as fees for these courses.
Justice N.V. Balasubramanian, chairman of the permanent fee fixation committee for professional colleges, on Tuesday said the committee had asked all colleges offering teacher education courses (D.T.Ed., B.Ed., M.Ed., B.P.E, B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed.) to submit their fee proposals along with documents.
“The committee received proposals from 788 private colleges for fee fixation and the committee decided to constitute teams to inspect the colleges which had not submitted the fee proposals.
Accordingly, 121 teams were constituted, which visited the colleges and submitted their reports to the committee,” Justice Balasubramanian said.
After detailed analysis of the report, public opinion and college proposals, the committee fixed the fees at Rs 23,000 for D.T.Ed., Rs 20,000 for B.P.Ed., and Rs 25,000 for M.P.Ed. students.
Justice Balasubramanian said the committee would recommend suitable action to the university if colleges violate the order.
In another development, the Tamil Nadu teachers education university has disaffiliated six private education colleges for lack of infrastructure and faculty.
Prof A.R. Veeramani, registrar of the university, said the university had identified five more for disaffiliation on the same grounds.
