No scarcity of water this summer, says Jaya
There is good news on the water front this summer. Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa said Chennai could manage its drinking water requirement with ease this summer as Krishna water would reach the state border on May 30.
In a statement on Saturday, the CM said after she wrote to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart, Kiran Kumar Reddy, on March 24, the Andhra Pradesh government had informed her that it had released water from Kandaleru reservoir from May 20. It was releasing 500 cusecs of water to ensure 4 tmc ft of water is received at the border.
“The water released from Kandaleru reservoir will reach Tamil Nadu border on May 30,” she said adding this would help meet city’s water requirements during the summer season.
As per the Krishna water agreement, Andhra Pradesh has to provide 12 tmc ft of water every year to Tamil Nadu from Kandaleru reservoir.
