Nithyananda to go on Kailash yatra

Controversial godman Swami Nithyananda is all set to fly out to Kailash Wednesday evening though a few court proceedings are still pending against him and the Karnataka crime branch CID has asked him to appear before a medical panel on July 30 to test his sexual potency.

“I am taking the flight from Chennai to Delhi Wednesday evening. From there, I will be flying to Nepal and reaching Kailash at the earliest. Two hundred devotees will be joining me at Kailash on this three-week trip”, Nithyananda told DC.

Asked if it was right for him to leave on his pilgrimage when some court proceedings were still on and also the Karnataka police have made arrangements to test his potency at the Victoria Hospital (Bengaluru) on July 30, he shot back, “My Kailash programme was planned six months back and announced on our website. Two hundred devotees are accompanying me. My lawyer will explain this situation to the courts”.

At the peak of the hugely embarrassing telecast of a video showing him with an actress in 2010, Nithyananda had claimed that he was impotent and so must not be accused of sexual activities with women. The Karnataka CB-CID police probing the video have decided to verify that claim and sent a notice to the godman to appear before a medical panel at the Victoria Hospital on July 30.

Also, the Karnataka police had filed a case against Nithyananda and some of his followers on June 8 following attack on a journalist at his press conference. The godman absconded for some days and surrendered to a court on June 13.

After spending a night in jail, he was released on bail on June 14. It remains to be seen if the Karnataka police would allow the godman to go to Kailash at this stage, particularly considering the holy destination is in Chinese-controlled Tibet.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
