New station to open in June

Come June and an MRTS station at Mundakanni Amman Koil, between Thirumailai and Light House stations, will finally be thrown open to commuters after a delay of over two years.
The station was slated for completion in 2009 at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore, but was delayed due to land acquisition problems, according to an officer of the Southern Railway.
“The construction work which started in 2008 will be completed by the end of June,” he assured.
The station, less than a kilometer from Thirumailai has been welcomed by local residents, who feel it will make commuting more convenient as they currently need to walk at least 20 minutes to reach the Thirumailai Station or the Sanskrit College to board a bus.
“People living in Loga-nathan Colony, on Natchi-yappa Street, Naattu Subbarayan Street and in P.N.K.
Thottam and students of P.S. High School will certainly benefit Instead of taking autos or walking to the Thirumailai Station they can now take a train to Beach or Velachery from this station,” pointed out Soundaravalli, a local resident.
“We hope the work will be completed soon,” added a resident of Mundakanni Amman Koil Street.
Mr R. Suresh of Loganathan Colony, was unhappy with the delay, recalling that it took a lot of persuasion for the railways to construct a station at Mundakanni Amman Koil. “Nearly 500 commuters have been inconvenienced by the inordinate delay,” he lamented.
