Navy awaits new acquisitions
The Indian navy is in the process of acquiring more infrastructure in the naval aviation sector to increase its multi dimensional capacity, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, chief of staff, eastern naval command, said.
“Our navy is surging ahead to match and protect our nation’s economic success.
We are building a modern and potent air element to add to our punch at sea with new acquisitions that are underway,” the Vice Admiral said on Friday, addressing the newly commissioned helicopter pilots at naval air station INS Rajali at Arakkonam.
He said the helicopter stream was one of the most challenging dimensions of the Navy, wherein operation from decks was closely integrated with the ships team,“Besides the long range aircraft like the TU and forthcoming P8-I that extends our reach, it is the helicopters being integrated to the ship are force multipliers to surface platforms adding to the fleet’s lethal punch,” he said adding to achieve this, the country required trained manpower and pilots.
“They are the vital link in the integration of man and machine and these human assets are far more valuable than the aircraft,” he added.
The Vice Admiral congratulated four pilots of the Navy and five of the Coast Guard, including two women, who completed training at the 78th helicopter conversion course at the training school even while awarding women pilots ‘Wings’ at an impressive passing out parade.
