Mum, daughter die in suicide pact?
An 85-year-old woman and her daughter, 65, both widows, were found dead in their rented first-floor apartment in Alawarthirunagar on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Lalitha and her daughter Yogajayam. The police said that the two may have died at least three days back and their bodies — found in sitting positions on the drawing room sofas — were in a decomposed state.
“There was no apparent break in or use of force. It could be a case of suicide. But we are not sure of the motive behind such an extreme step. We would be able to get a clear picture only after we get the post mortem report,” a police official said.
Lalitha’s other children, including a practising doctor, are in Chennai while Yogajayam’s son is settled in the US. The lack of a clear motive for their possible suicide is baffling to the police.
Before their death, the two women had idlies and milk and there were medicines on the table. All valuables in the bureau were found intact.
“It was Yogajayam’s son in the US, who became worried after his mother failed to answer his phone calls. He informed his wife’s mother about it and she personally visited Yogajayam’s house. When there was no reply from the flat, that was locked from inside, she broke it open with the help of a carpenter on Sunday and found both the women dead,” the police said
