Multi-hued butterfly flies high
Seventy-seven years may be construed as too old for humans but not to an institution in the service of the people.
The passage of time does not seem to stale the infinite variety of Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperatives Society Ltd, familiarly known as Cooptex, on its 77th anniversary as it still churns out new designs.
From producing dazzling silk sarees, to dhotis and designer wear, the multi-hued butterfly symbol of Cooptex has become a familiar image in many households across the state. Interestingly, its products have crossed frontiers to woo the people abroad.
Established in 1935, long before India became independent, Co-optex, sustains the tradition of weaving silk sarees, handlooms and several products.
With a turnover of over Rs 632 crores Co-optex nurtures a band of dedicated handloom weavers across Tamil Nadu.
And it thought appropriate to join the multitude of modern outlets in introducing “buy two, get one free” scheme as part of foundation day celebrations.
The foundation day bonanza has been extended to all its 202 showrooms across the country for
its entire range of products – from towels, handkerchief to intricately weaven sarees with price ranging between Rs 30 and Rs 2 lakh.
Under this, if two sarees are purchased, a third saree of lower value will be given free. The offer will be on till April 2.
