Modern kitchens for anganwadis at Rs 3.2cr
As part of the initiative to ensure “smokeless kitchens” in anganwadi centres across the state, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has ordered the establishment of modern kitchens in about 5,000 anganwadis in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 3.2 crore.
Anganwadi centres would get gas connections, gas stoves and pressure cookers. Already, the initiative has been implemented across 16,645 Anganwadi centres, according to an official release here on Wednesday.
Of the 54,439 Anganwadi centres in the state, 16,645 have got smokeless kitchens aiding to serve noon meals to 31 lakh persons, including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls and aged persons.
Further, the chief minister has directed the implementation of a pioneering scheme to provide two sets of clothes to the children between the age group of two to five coming to the anganwadi centres this year.
In the first phase, the scheme would be implemented at a cost of Rs 4.3 crore in Chennai, Vellore, Tiruchi, Theni and Dindigul districts benefitting about 2,01,032 childrens.
