Minister calls to augment state revenues
Enthused over the increase in revenue collections during the second quarter of this fiscal, the state government has set a target to mop up tax revenue to the tune of Rs 51,332 crore during 2012 –13 fiscal.
State commercial taxes and registration minister B.V. Ramanaa called upon officials to initiate measures to augment the revenue and surpass the target of Rs 51,332 crore.
This will aid the government in implementing social welfare schemes announced by the chief minister, he added.
The commercial taxes department realised revenue of Rs 23,142 crores upto the second quarter of this fiscal, as against Rs 18,336 crore during the half year ending of the last financial year, registering a growth rate of 26 per cent.
Reviewing the performance of his department with senior officials here on Monday, the minister instructed officials to “tirelessly perform their duties and ensure collection of revenue from all possible avenues so as to enable an uphill trend in the growth of the state.”
He said CM had issued orders to fill, 325 vacant posts in the department to reach the target.
Stating that the government had sanctioned Rs 33.36 crore towards modernisation of check posts belonging to the department, Mr Ramanaa said Rs 20.15 crore was allotted for constructing new buildings for commercial tax offices which were operating from rented premises.
A total of Rs 1.12 crore was also allotted to the department for new vehicles, the minister said.
