Menon to take up Fishermen issue with SL
Union minister of state in the PMO V. Narayanasamy said National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon would take up the issue of attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy when he visits the island nation on Friday.
Speaking to reporters at the airport here on Thursday, he said Prime Minister would take action on the letter written by chief minister Jayalalithaa on the continuing attacks on fishermen.
Jayalalithaa has written to the PM in the wake of June 26 incident in which the Sri Lankan navy reportedly chased the Indian fishermen in mid-sea, cut their ropes and damaged nets of several boats resulting in huge loss to them.
The minister said Mr Menon would raise the issue when he meets Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
To a query on Jayalalithaa’s demand for convening of Cauvery River Authority meeting, the minister said all state governments should respect inter-state river agreements.
