Mayor warns ward representatives
Following a report in this newspaper about a ruling party councillor’s alleged involvement in providing illegal water connection, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Friday conducted an inquiry.
The mayor warned the ward representative and asked him to ensure that his name was not dragged into such issues in the future.
“Amma has clearly warned all ward members to be clean and ensure good administration. The chief minister is keen on the performance of all ward representatives and so try to improve your ward,” was the instruction and piece of advice by mayor to councillor V. Annamalai, Ripon Building sources said.
Councillor V. Annamalai refuting the charges levelled against him said the mayor has instructed him to restore the road damaged last night, while providing water connection to a plot in Injambakkam. The councillor also showed the last year bill receipts obtained from Injambakkam town panchayat for providing water connection to the plot.
“There was a verbal duel between the neighbours over the water connection. I visited the spot after the residents called me, but my name was unnecessarily dragged into the issue and an intimidation charge has been made against me. I will be meeting the mayor in a day or two again to explain my case along with the residents concerned,” the councillor told Deccan Chronicle.
