Man stabs brother for not finding him autorickshaw
A man stabbed his 32-year-old younger brother to death in JJ Nagar after the deceased failed to fetch an autorickshaw to attend their uncle’s funeral on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ponnaiah alias Kamal, a carpenter. According to the police he was stabbed by his elder brother Thangaraj alias Rajini.
Thangaraj residing in Padi had come to JJ Nagar to travel to Pallavaram along with other family members to attend the funeral of his uncle.
It looked like after reaching JJ Nagar Thangaraj, Ponnaiah and others in the family were reportedly drinking. Thangaraj gave money and asked Ponnaiah to hire an autorickshaw, the police said.
The family waited till 12.30 am, but Ponnaiah returned empty-handed. This infuriated Thangaraj who started scolding his brother. This turned into a quarrel and after which Thangaraj allegedly stabbed his younger brother.
“Ponnaiah started walking with the bleeding in search of a hospital. He failed to reach the hospital and died on the road. There was no power in the area at that time,” police said.
On Friday morning residents found the body of the deceased at the fifth block in J.J. Nagar.
Police informed the family about the death of Ponnaiah in the morning. “It’s difficult for Thangaraj to remember what had happened on Thursday night under the influence of alcohol. But there were bloodstains on his shirt.
Others in the family too had confirmed the altercations between the brothers and stabbing,” police said. Thangaraj was arrested.
