Man dupes BE students, detained
Police has detained a man of Purasawalkam for duping engineering college students in the city of Rs 3 lakh by promising to get them iPhones at cheaper rates.
According to police, Vinoth, an engineering student of Arumbakkam, had come across an advertisement on the sale of iPhones on the internet recently.
He apprised his friends about the advertisement who expressed interest in the product. When they called the number provided on the site, a man named Nasim Ishad spoke to them.
It has been alleged that he promised to secure them i Phones at cheaper rates.
When Vinoth collected cash worth Rs 3.2 lakh from 10 of his classmates and contacted Nasim Ishad, he asked Vinoth to bring the money to beach road in Parry’s.
When Vinoth arrived at the spot, Nasim took the cash, and left promising to hand over the phones the following day.
As Vinoth didn’t hear from Nasim, he grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the North beach police station.
However police caught Nasim in Parry’s while he attempted to dupe another person. During investigation, Nasim confessed to having duped Vinoth and his friends.
