Lok adalat gives Rs 48L to officer’s mom
Rajayoham and Mallika of Theni were on Wednesday paid Rs 48.61 lakh by a Hong Kong-based shipping company seven months after their son’s death on the high seas off the Japanese coast, as a result of the intervention of the Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority (TNLSA).
Justice Elipe Dharma Rao of the Madras high court, who is also the executive chairman of TNLSA that referred the matter to the Lok Adalat, handed over a bank draft for the amount to the couple.
The couple’s son Rajayoham Prasad, who was an assistant electrical officer, died in an accident aboard the ship MV Taiji on December 13, 2011.
Senior fleet officer Kamaskshi, representing the shipping company, agreed on the amount at the Lok Adalat presided over by (Retd) Justice Malai Subramanian.
