The long wait for 5.6 lakh IIT aspirants who took the joint entrance examination to get admission in 15 IITs this year will get over on Friday as the JEE organising committee will declare the results on Friday.

The results are expected to be announced on Friday morning and aspirants can check the results
on IIT website, www.jee.iitm.ac.in and www.jee.iitd.ac.in.

Though the number of students who took up JEE all over the country went up from 4.72 lakh last year to 4.85 lakh this year, the number dwindled in the Madras zone.

About 68,500 students from Madras zone (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala) had applied last year for examination, compared to the 65,650 this year.

It may be pointed out that in an attempt to increase enrolment of girl students in the 15 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country, women candidates were exempted from paying application fees.

The IITs had brought in som changes in the joint entrance examination this year with the category-wise absolute cut-off marks in each subjects and aggregate for ranking the candidates were declared well in advance allowing students to maximize aggregate marks, after ensuring the minimum marks in individual subjects.

Candidates were given carbonless copy paper based answersheets (optical response sheets) as record of their performance.

Before announcement of the results, answersheets were displayed on the website along with the correct answer choices and machine-read responses, allowing candidates the opportunity to submit revision request in case of any perceived error.

Students who accept seats in the earlier rounds are allowed to withdraw their acceptance before the final round of seat allocation.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
