Jayalalithaa puts TN on development highway
More investment is likely to flow into the state with the government promising to ink pacts with several auto and component makers. It will also come out with industry-specific policies.
Inaugurating a Rs 4,400-crore Daimler commercial truck-making facility at Oragadam in Chennai Wednesday, CM Jayalali-thaa announced Tamil Nadu would soon sign memoranda of understanding with a number of companies. “I have a vision of making Chennai global leader in auto and components manufacturing,” she said.
“My government is finalising a set of policy reforms that will translate my vision [of making TN the number one state in the country by 2023] into reality,” CM said and promised industry-specific policies for automobiles, auto components, bio-technology, aerospace and renewable energy with focus on solar power generation.
“Industrial policy 2012 will accelerate growth in the manufacturing sector to 14%. My government aspires to lay 2000 km of 6- and 8-lane expressways and 5,000 km of 4-lane highways and provide 20,000 MW of power before the end of 2023,” she said.
CM said her government had approved an “attractive package of support to Daimler” but did not elaborate.
