Jayalalithaa hikes sports quota seats in B.E. colleges
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has ordered an increase in the quota for sportspersons in the engineering counselling from the present 100 to 500 seats, in an effort to promote sports in a big way in the state.
“Taking into account the increasing number of sports competitions and the numbers of sportspersons, it has been decided to increase the number of seats under sports quota counselling in engineering admission to 500 from the present 100 from the 2012–13 academic year to encourage and motivate sportspersons,” Ms Jayalalithaa said in a release here on Tuesday.
According to Prof. V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, TNEA, the certificates of those seeking admission under sports quota would be verified on July 5 and 6 and the counselling would be held on July 9 and 10.
